| When Israeli Jazz Pianist Liz Magnes moved to NY, it was an opportunity to further her interest in exploring and presenting jazz in her own unique style which combines Mideastern nuances with western musical ideas. With so much world attention focused on the Mideast, it is timely. Her playing reflects the most profound use of "Taqsim"; the Arabic meaning of improvisation , an immersion of personal and universal emotions. Whether it is a solo program of standards, a duet with a poet, or her own compositions, the gifted Magnes brings a unique performance to her audience. This October and November she will be performing in several venues in our area . "Over the years I have extensively explored a variety of ethnic melodies and rhythms, integrating rich and varied musical heritages. Medieval Jewish Prayers; Ladino melodies; Arab Maqam; Israeli pop; and American standards....weaving these different eras and cultures into musical tapestries."
